Building Healthy Rural Communities With Private Labs Testing

The healthcare system in Canada has been a source of pride for Canadians for years, but the health system is not without its flaws. Healthcare doesn’t cover all aspects of health, the wait times can be long, and accessibility may be limited. For people living in rural communities without large hospitals or specialists, procuring required healthcare can be incredibly difficult. Private lab testing that is accessible to all people is one way to address these issues, so that people in all communities can receive the testing they need even if they do not live near a large city.

Rural Lab Testing To Improve Health Services

Benefits Of Multifaceted Healthcare
While most people know the importance of healthcare in general, some forms of healthcare fall by the wayside when compared to others. Many people need access to:

  • Dental care
  • Optical care
  • Mental health care
  • Disease prevention
  • Access to a family doctor
  • Blood and specimen testing

These types of healthcare can sometimes be ignored as they aren't viewed as immediately necessary, but they are all crucial to the health and wellbeing of every person. When a person has access to all of these health services, they have a higher chance of detecting medical conditions early, extending their lives, and improving their quality of life later on.

Factors That Limit Access To Healthcare
Anyone who lives in a rural community or on a farm or acreage has likely either experienced, or heard of experiences, where a person was unable to receive the healthcare they needed because of transportation. Elderly residents, those with mobility issues, or those who do not drive struggle to reach the specialized care they need in another city. Even those who are physically able to get themselves to a medical center may struggle to get time off of work or to find childcare while they go out of town for their medical services. If health services do not exist in a community or if they are difficult to access, it limits people from receiving the care they need. When private lab testing is available in all different rural communities, those who are unable to leave their communities can still receive blood testing in order to monitor their health.

Rural Blood Testing
To help combat this lack of availability of health services, Ichor Health is offering lab testing for rural communities. The lab services being developed by Ichor Health are a private lab testing program that offers a variety of standard and enhanced, private pay lab services.
