Ichor Launches D-dimer test
A D-dimer test is a blood test that measures D-dimer, which is a protein fragment that your body makes when a blood clot dissolves in your body.
D-dimer is normally undetectable, or only detectable at very low levels unless your body is forming and breaking down blood clots.
A normal D-dimer result of 500ng/mL or less fibrinogen equivalent units (FEU) has a negative predictive of 97-100% and is FDA approved for the exclusion of acute pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thromosis (DVT) when there is a low or moderate pretest probability.
The SARS-COV-2 spike protein found in the natural virus as well as the vaccines have been shown to impact d-dimer levels in a small percentage of cases. Emerging studies have also shown that D-dimer value on admission to hospital is an accurate biomarker for predicting mortality in patients with COVID-19.
This test is an excellent way to identify any potential red flags and facilitate a conversation with your doctor.
D-dimer testing is now available in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, and our Pop Up Clinics.
